Explorer - Big Mountain Summer Camp in Whistler
Start Date: July 7, 2012
End Date: July 13, 2012
Age: 12 to 15 years old (co-ed)
Price: $875 CDN + HST (includes all transportation while on trip, camping equipment, lodging and food)
Location: Whistler, Garibaldi Provincial Park
Big Mountain summer camp is designed for teens who are seeking outdoor recreation and introduction to leadership, while exploring the abundance of wilderness based activities available in Whistler and Garibaldi Provincial Park. This summer we will not only visit popular 2010 Olympic sites, campers will also do an overnight at stunning Wedgmount Lake to sleep under the stars. Campers will also have the opportunity to stay one night at the Fireside Lodge.
Explorer Big Mountain Highlights:
- Visit the impressive Garibaldi Provincial Park
- Introductory to outdoor youth leadership
- Sleep on top of majestic mountains as campers get close to touching the stars
- Receive a leadership certificate upon completion of the program

August 19, 2012: Vancouver/Golden Ears Provincial Park
- Departing Vancouver at 1:00pm
- Set up tents, gear check, tour the park, review Big Mountain program outline
- Team building activities
- Fireside welcome ceremony and dinner
- Fireside Wilderness Essentials – hiking basics, orienteering, self-care, weather reading and “Leave No Trace”
August 20, 2012: Golden Ears Provincial Park
- Morning hike and fitness test
- Review meal preparations
- Leadership Discussion Question: What is leadership?
- Animal Aware - What to do when you see an animal - bears, cougars and raccoons
- Review safety and emergency procedures, sign leadership contract and complete an eco-footprint survey
- Understanding the 5 pillars of leadership
- Afternoon hike and evening swim
- BBQ
August 21, 2012: Golden Ears Provincial Park/Manning Provincial Park
- Early morning wake up
- Morning yoga and breakfast
- Pack up site and depart for Manning Provincial Park
- Set up camp site at Manning Park
- Problem solving & challenge building activity
- Review “Challenge By Choice Policy”
- Alpine Flowers
- Fireside Wilderness Essentials – How to pack your backpack
August 22 - 25, 2011: Manning Provincial Park
- Depart for “Heather Trail”
- Campsites are Buckhorn, Kicking Horse, Nicomen Lake
- Fireside Wilderness Essentials – water purification, staying comfortable in the alpine, photography 101, preparing for bad weather and shelter building
- No campfires but the group will go star gazing each night
- The group will return to vehicle around 12pm on the 27th
- Pick-up in Vancouver by 6:00pm
